My life-interest in learning why things are the way they are, as well as enjoyment of forests, found a career match in the field of Wood Science. My professional interests are the manufacture and use of wood products with a focus on wood-based composites. I enjoy research which develops new experimental approaches taking advantage of rapid increases in computer capabilities and applying them to describe the behavior of composites.  This profession has allowed me to live in wonderful places such as Maine, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Washington, and the Upper Peninsula. More importantly, it allows me to share the thrill of discovery and understanding of how things work with graduate and undergraduate students.
