Orono, Maine is located in the east-central part of the State about 45 miles (75 km) from the Atlantic coast.
By Air: The most convenient way of reaching the conference site at the University of Maine in Orono is via air. Bangor international airport is approximately 10 miles (16 km) from the conference site and hotels. Despite the airport name, international passenger flights do not normally land in Bangor. Rather, service to Bangor from international sites is via Boston, Massachusetts; Cincinnatti, Ohio or Detroit, Michigan. Limited air service from New York City and Atlanta are also available. Transportation will be provided to and from the airport to the hotels and conference site. Your arrival time at the airport is needed in advance so that transportation can be arranged. A passport is required to enter the United States. By Car: For those who live within reasonable driving distance, the conference site is located about 370 miles (620 kilometers) from Montreal, Canada and about 250 miles (420 km) from Boston, Massachusetts. Adequate parking is available at hotels and at the conference site. There is also bus service from the Logan airport in Boston to Bangor, Maine. A taxicab can be taken from the bus station to the conference site and is the responsibility of the attendee. A passport is required to enter the United States.
1) Passports and Visas One important reminder for those coming to IUFRO 10 from outside the U.S. is that in the last five years entry requirements into the U.S. have been modified. It is important that you start considering this issue early enough to ensure preparation of your requirements in time to attend the meeting. These requirements vary greatly from country to country, so please go to the following link to the US State Department http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1990.html for details. We will gladly send you a invitation letter if needed as soon as we receive your Registration Form and bank draft copy.
