Forests and forest products have always been a part of my life.  As a young boy I have great memories roaming the mill yard at my grandfather’s sawmill in Nova Scotia and of helping my father cut firewood from our woodlot.  I am proud to say that I am a forest engineer and I am fortunate to be part of a diverse team of researchers, instructors, and staff at the University of Maine.  Before switching to academia, I spent 5 years in British Columbia as a forest engineering consultant designing forest transportation systems for industry and government clients.  Outside of academic pursuits, I enjoy spending time with my wife and children, serving in a variety of capacities at our church, and getting much needed exercise by running and hiking.
