Description
Basic concepts of science will be used to explain how forests have responded to natural and human influences over time. This foundation will be used to explore how a range of proposed policies will affect the future sustainability of forest systems and their ability to meet society’s needs.
The course is offered in 2 parts.
FTY/ESP 111 - Forests Through Time: A web-based course for 1 credit. Lecture recordings, web links, and some readings are available to the general public. Quizzes and restricted material are accessible only to registered students through the use of WebCT. You can register for FTY 111 without needing to register for FTY 112.
FTY/ESP 112 – Forests Through Time: Discussions
A 2 credit course with weekly discussions based on information presented in the FTY 111/112 web site and WebCT.
Discussions take place on the UMaine campus in Orono and other locations using the Maine Distance Learning Project ATM network for video conferencing. Check the registration section below for likely locations in the coming semester. You must register for FTY 111 when you register for FTY 112.
Together, FTY 111 and FTY 112 satisfy the General Education Population and the Environment Requirement for the UMaine undergraduate programs. |
